About Stephen King
Stephen Edwin King was born on 21st September, 1947. He is an American author of horror, fictional, supernatural fiction, suspense, science fiction and fantasy. His books have sold more than 350 million copies, many of which have been adapted into feature films, miniseries, television shows and comic books. He used his pen name for publishing many books and the pen name was “Richard Bachman”. He has written 200 short stories, most of which have been collected in book collections. Many of his stories are set in his home state of Maine.
King has received Bram Stoker Awards, World Fantasy Awards and British Fantasy Society Awards. His novel “The way station” was a Nebula Award novelette nominee. In 2003, the National Book Foundation awarded him the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. His short story “The Man in Black Suit” received the O. Henry Award in 1994. He has also received awards for his contribution to literature for his entire oeuvre, such as the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement Award (2007), and the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America. In 2015, King was awarded with a National Medal of Arts from the United States National Endowment for the Arts for his contributions to literature.
Books
King sold his first professional short story, “The Glass Floor”, to starting Mystery Stories in 1967. In 1973, Kings First novel Carrie was accepted by publishing house Doubleday. After his mother’s death, King and his family moved to Boulder, Colorado, where King wrote The Shining was published in 1977. The family of King was returned to western Maine in 1975, where King completed his fourth novel known as The Stand. King has written two novels with horror novelist Peter Straub, The Talisman and a sequel, Black House (2001). King also wrote the notification book, Faithful (2004), with novelist and fellow Red Sox Fanatic Stewart O’Nan. Throttle (2009) was a novel that was written in collaboration with his son Joe Hill. King Often uses authors as characters, or includes mention of fictional books in his stories, novellas and novels, such as Paul Sheldon who is the main character is Misery, adult Bill Denbrough in It, Ben Mears in Salem’s Lot and Jack Torrance in The Shining. Stephen King won American Library Association best books for young adult’s award for 1978 Salem’s lot and 1981 Fire starter. He also gets Bram Stoker Award for Misery 1987. He also won British fantasy award and also gets Quill Award 2005.

- King and his wife Tabitha own The Zone Corporation. A company that serves to head their three radio stations in Maine.
- He is a hardcore Red Sox fan. Not only did he write a story about the Sox the Girl who loved Tom Gordon. He also has a little cameo in the Jimmy Fallon movie Fever Pitch, which is about a crazed Boston fan.
- He suffered from a collapsed lung, a broken hip, a gash to the head and a leg broken in nine places.
- King had pretty serious drug and alcohol addictions in the 80s.
- Of the five people in the immediate King family. Four of them are authors. Tabitha king, Stephen’s wife has seven published novels. Joe their oldest son followed in his dad’s footsteps and is a horror writer. Youngest child Owen has written a collection of short stories and one novella. Naomi, the only King daughter is a minister and gay activist.
