Isabel’s friend Mina offers comfort with Xanax, and then finds herself among the gossips. Baker the writer of this book switches perspective among five women (Isabel, Lily, Mina, and Madison, Amanda) to create a collage of Greenwich parents, children and the people paid to manage the parents, houses and care for their kids. Baker examines different facets of these betrayals from multiple points of view. As the teenager puzzles out her father’s actions and her mother silences, a personal, thought-provoking portrait emerges of the American Dream, complete with a web of visible and invisible cracks in the foundation. This book is a captivating debut about wealth, envy and secrets. It tells a story of five women whose lives are dramatically changed by the downfall of a financial titan. About Angelica Grace Baker:
Angelica grace baker the writer of our little racket. She was born and raised in Los Angeles, and now lived in Brooklyn. She lived in Paris for a year, where she taught English to French first graders. She received BA in English and creative writing from Yale University, where she worked with Caryl Philips and Amy Bloom. At Yale, she was awarded the Elmore A. Willets prize for fiction and was nominated for the Steere Prize in Women’s studies for the senior essay for her thesis on the novels of Joan Didion.
