Historical novels are based on the plot that depicts the settings in the past and focuses on the manners, social conditions and other details of the period. The history based novels allow the readers to understand how the people in the past responded with the environments and what significant role history play in our lives.
Naseem Hijazi is a well-known Urdu novel writer. Most of his novels are based on the Islamic history where he has shown the rise and fall of Islamic history. He was born before the independence of Pakistan and spends most of his life in Pakistan and died in March 1996. Some of his novels depict the rise of Islam to political, economic and educational power while some are based on the rise and fall of Islam in Spain. Khaak Aur Khoon is one of his historical novel based on the sacrifices by the Muslims of South Asia during the independence in 1947.
When the Muslims from different regions try to get to Pakistan, the Hindus tease them in every possible way. They attacked them during their journeys, take all the belongings and even sometimes raped their women as well. The Muslims suffer a lot to get their homeland. Khaak Aur Khoon is based on all those sacrifices. The main character was Saleem, an intelligent young boy, who goes to college and participate in the speeches for Pakistan. After the completion of his studies, he became the part of Muslim League Congress. After the Independence when his family tries to move Pakistan, the Hindus killed them all by throwing in a fire. The novel is based on the life journey of Saleem who later on help in the Kashmir fight and married the sister of one his friends.
