Gregor the Overlander is a children’s epic fantasy novel that is written by Suzzane Collins. It was published in 2003 as the first book in The Underland Chronicle series. The novel is an engrossing adventure for fantasy fans and for those new to the genre. The book also gets popularity due to it cover political themes such as war and genocide while still maintaining an adventurous feeling for the reader. The writer of the novel done a great job of world building with a fine economy of words no unnecessary details are written down in the book that distract the reader from the original theme of the book. The book is written in a unique way and different themes are written down in the book that is easily understandable by the readers. The novel has received some negative criticism. One critical reviews by children’s literature was that the novel lacks at certain points necessary descriptive details of the characters and settings. The novel won the Pennsylvania young readers choice award for 2005-2006 and was the first runner up for the Texas Bluebonnet Award.
About Suzanne Collins:
Suzanne Collins was born on 10th August 1962. She is an American television writer, and author and she is best known for her work for The Underland Chronicles series and also for The Hunger Games trilogy. She began her career in 1991 as a writer for children’s television. She worked on several television shows for Nickelodeon including Clarissa Explains it all, the mystery files of Shelby woo, little bear and Oswald. She was also the head writer for Scholastic entertainment’s Clifford’s puppy days. She also received a writer’s guild of America nomination in animation for co-writing the critically acclaimed Christmas special Santa and Baby. She received no of awards for her work. She received California Young Reader Medal in 2011, publishers weekly’s best books of the year, An American Library Association Top 10 best books for young adult selection, An ALA Notable children’s book, 2008 CYBIL Award fantasy and science fiction and many more.
