About Dark Places:
Dark Places is a mystery novel that was written by Gillian Flynn. It was published in 2009. The novel deals with class issues in rural America, intense poverty and the Satanic cult hysteria that swept the United States in the 1980s. Dark Places was shortlisted for the Crime Writer’s Association Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award and won the Dark Scribe Magazine. The novel’s narrator and protagonist, is the sole survivor of a massacre in kinnakee, Kansas, a fictional rural town. After witnessing the murders of her two sisters and mother, in what appears to be a satanic cult ritual, she escapes through a window and later testifies in court against her teenage brother. Dark places were listed on the New York Times Best Seller List for Hardcover fiction on May 29, 2009, where it was ranked #15 for the week ending May 23. It was included in an expanded listing on the top of 35 best sellers that appeared only online. It remained on the best seller list for two weeks. The novel was also nominated for Dark Scribe Magazine’s Black Quill Award in the category of Dark Genre Novel of the year on November 29, 2009. The award recognizes a novel length work of horror, suspense, or thriller from mainstream publisher. Dark places were the editor’s pick for the category where it was one of six nominees. The book was also adapted into a film directed by Gilles Paquet Brenner.
About Gillian Flynn:
Gillian Schieber Flynn was born on 24th February, 1971. She is an American author, screenwriter, comic book writer and former television critic for Entertainment weekly. Her three published novels are Sharp objects, Dark Places, and Gone Girl. She was promoted to television critic and wrote about films but was laid off in December 2008. Flynn was a reader of comic and graphic novels when she was a child. She collaborated with Illustrator Dave Gibbons and wrote a comic book story called Masks. It is part of the anthology series Dark Horse presents and was published by Dark Horse comics in February 2015.
