Meggie the main character of this novel have only her father to herself since her mother went away when she was young. Mo the father of Meggie told her daughter to read when she was only five, and the two shares a mutual love of books. He can easily read the characters out of books. When Meggie was only three years old, he read aloud from a book called Inkheart and released the characters into the real world. The novel relates how the villainous basta and his horrible boss, Capricorn, appear kidnap Mo and are tracked to their hideout in a ruined Italian village. The books give a feel about them as it used to feel about the pirates in Treasure Island that is a book frequently mentioned in Inkheart.
