Drums of Autumn is the fourth book in the Outlander series of novels by Dianna Gabaldon. It was centered on time-traveling 20th-century nurse Claire Randall and her 18th century Scottish Highlander warrior husband Jamie Fraser. The book in these series contains the elements of fiction, science fantasy, and fiction, romance. The heroine of the bestselling Outlander, Claire returns in Drums of Autumn, reunited with her husband Jamie Fraser and facing a new life in the American colonies. As the preceding novel, Voyager concluded with Jamie Fraser and his wife Claire Shipwrecked on the Georgia Coastline in 1766 and happy to be out of Scotland. Drums of Autumn picks up where Voyager left off. Jamie and Claire as well as Fergus and Ian make their way first to Charleston and then Wilmington before settling in the North Carolina foothills in hopes of building a homestead. At the same time, Brianna Ellen Randall and her suitor, historian Roger Wakefield, remain safely ensconced in the 20th century. Now orphaned by her mother’s departure to the past, Brianna struggles to accept her loss and satisfy her curiosity about a father she has ever met, not only to discover a tragic piece of history that threatens her parents happiness in the past.

About Dianna Gabaldon:

Dianna J. Gabaldon was born on 11 January 1952. She is an American author known for the Outlander series of novels. Her books merge multiple genres, featuring elements of historical fiction, romance, mystery, adventure, science fantasy and fiction. She was the founding editor of Science software Quarterly in 1984 while employed at the Center for Environmental Studies at Arizona University. During the mid 1980s, Gabaldon wrote software reviews and technical articles for computer publications as well as popular sciences and comic books for the Walt Disney Company. In 1998 she just writes a novel for practice. Gabaldon’s Outlander won the Romance Writers of America’s RITA Award for best romance of 1991. A Breath of Snow and Ashes 2005 debuted at no.1 on The New York Times Hardcover Fiction Best Seller list and won the Quill Award for science fiction/fantasy/horror. In 2007, The Montreal Gazette noted that Gabaldon’s books are in demand in 24 countries in 19 languages and that the author continues to churn out one bestseller after another.
