Benjamin Franklin: An American life book was an auto biography of Benjamin Franklin who was one of the founding fathers of the United States. This auto biography was written by Walter Isaacson. Franklin was a renowned polymath and a leading author, printer, political theorist, politician, postmaster, scientist, statesman and diplomat. As a scientist, he was a major figure in the American Enlightenment and the history of physics of his discoveries and theories regarding electricity. As an inventor he is known for the lighting rod and the Franklin stove among other inventions. Franklin earned the title of “The first American” for his early and indefatigable campaigning for colonial unity. He is famous for an author and spokesman in London for several colonies. In this book that was written by Walter, he described Benjamin Franklin in a detailed way. Franklin became a successful newspaper editor and printer in Philadelphia at the age of 23. He organized and was the first secretary of the American Philosophical society and was elected president in 1769. He initially owned and dealt in slaves but, by the 1750s, he argued against slavery from an economic perspective and became one of the most prominent abolitionists. In 1733, Franklin began to publish the noted Poor Richard’s Almanack. Franklin frequently wrote under pseudonyms. In 1741 Franklin began publishing The General Magazine and Historical Chronicle for all the British Plantations in America. Special Balloting conducted on October 18, 1785, unanimously elected Franklin the 6th President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, replacing John Dickinson. Franklin held that office for over three years, longer than any other, and he also served the constitutional limit of three full terms. Benjamin Franklin died from Pleuritic attack at his home in Philadelphia on April 17, 1790 at the age of 84.
