The End of College is the book about creating the future of learning and the University of Everywhere. This book is written by higher education writer and policy analyst Kevin Carey. This book is all about the future of higher education. In this book the writer explains that only about one in 18 students who apply to Harvard gain admission, but today anyone in the world can take dozens of online courses from the esteemed Ivy League University free of charge. Harvard is one of more than 100 institutions offering such open access online classes, and over the last few years millions of people have enrolled. In the End of College is creating the future of learning and the University of Everywhere. Kevin Carey describes how new technology is changing and will continue to transform the higher education landscape. Carey is also the director of the Education Policy program at the New America Foundation, recently spoke with U.S news about how colleges can successfully adapt to what’s come and what students and parents should keep in mind. Carey also describes some flaws of higher education in this book. According to him most people in higher education are trapped inside organizations that have very specific incentives that push them to become more expensive, that push them to deprioritize the quality of education that undergraduates receive, and that push them to compete with one another in some unhealthy ways. In this book he also explains what policy makers should do. According to him we need to create spaces where organizations can access public resources in exchange for being held genuinely accountable for the quality of education they provide, but in a way that could be highly nontraditional when it comes to the format and process of teaching and credentialing.
